In Loving Memory • Marc-Manuel Alexander Otto ("Mwni")

A Heartfelt Tribute to Our Creator, Developer & Fellow Stick Runner

When a 16-year-old student in Germany built a browser game about a running stick figure, he gave an entire generation a place to laugh, compete, and grow up together.

Official Stick Run Community announcement mourning the passing of creator Marc-Manuel Alexander Otto (Mwni)
Official statement shared by the Stick Run-Team and the global Stick Run Community.

It is with a heavy heart that we confirm and announce the passing of our creator, developer, and fellow Stick Runner, Marc-Manuel Alexander Otto.

Stick Run was more than just a game. For so many of us, it was a part of our childhood. A game we grew up playing with friends, sharing laughs, competing for high scores, and making memories that will stay with us for a lifetime. It brought people together and became a cherished part of our childhood.

Today, we mourn not only the loss of our creator, but also a fellow Stick Runner whose work became a part of our lives. His legacy will live on through every memory, every run, and every player who grew up playing Stick Run.

Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and everyone whose life he touched. Thank you, Manuel, for being a part of our childhood. You will never be forgotten.

Rest in peace Mwni — The Stick Run-Team & the entire Stick Run Community
Why I Built This Archive

A Personal Note From a Lifelong Stick Runner

When I read the announcement about Manuel's passing, my heart sank. Like millions of kids growing up in the early 2010s, Stick Run wasn't just a browser tab for me—it was where my friends and I met every single afternoon after school. We didn't need expensive consoles when we had rooftop races, spinning sawblades, and hours of trading crates for our dream hats.

After hearing the news, all I wanted to do was hear that familiar electronic menu theme and play one more run in his honor. Because Adobe Flash was retired years ago, many returning players had nowhere clean and safe to revisit the game. I built StickRunOnline.com as a humble tribute so Mwni's work—and the playground of our youth—stays alive for everyone who misses him.
